Short Review: Excellent privacy tent for camping, beach, pool parties, and can even be used as a dressing room! Yes, running a seasonal outdoor store, we used a tent like this for a dressing room! Easy setup, durable, and plenty of uses!
1.) Tons of uses
2.) Easy setup in under 2 minutes! Under 1 minute if you are careful and get out of its way quick enough!
3.) Includes everything you need (bottom, stakes, carry bag)
4.) Easy packup – There are videos on youtube to help if you cant figure it out!
5.) Plenty of vents and vent in the top (top vent allows venting even while changing clothes)
6.) Can be used to hang shower
Overall: very impressed with this and the price! great value!
Short Review: I own several of these inverter generators from various different brands.. I charge them via solar (see tips below about saving the laptop tips for solar charging), and then I use them while camping and other activities outdoors. 170watt hours is a lot of power, especially if used only to charge phones and stuff! This should charge a powerful smartphone around 50 times and probably more!
Use: I needed something in between the size of my yeti 400 lithium and my goal zero Sherpa 100.. this fits the bill perfectly!
1.) USB String Lights – Great camping accessory! I used Goal Zero lights. Worked great
2.) Microsoft Surface – Worked great and more than doubled the battery on my Surface
3.) Huawei Mate 9 – Charged 10 times and still had a ton of juice
4.) iPhone 6 – charged 10 time after charging the mate 9.. Still had tons of juice..
5.) 6 can mini fridge – Works Great
6.) Charged the NTONPOWER with my 100watt goal zero solar panel
Notes: This does not provide enough power for a coffee pot or anything like that
1.) Metal Body, built very well
2.) Easy to read LCD display
3.) Rubber waterproof protector for plugs
4.) Built in light
5.) Can charge multiple items at once
1.) Be sure to unscrew the outlet and connect it to the battery bank. It ships unplugged!
2.) You can use the laptop adapters to plug a goal Zero panel into this battery bank using the regular input instead of the solar input
3.) This battery pack cannot be carried on a plane.. you need one under 100 watt hours for that
Overall: after one trip and several test I am impressed with this battery pack. So far it’s working well! I have several other trips planned so I’ll continue to update if I have any issues
Short Review (Summary): Another GREAT Chill Gorilla Product here!! They have made some GREAT improvements over some of their other tarps and have managed to keep the price down!! This tarp includes everything you need to get out and about! Who hates buying new gear only to find out that you have to buy something else to make it work? I know I DO!!!! Not with Chill Gorilla! It includes everything you need to get out and into your hammock!
1.) Waterproof – Why make a tarp that’s not waterproof? Exactly BUT some companies make some that aren’t or maybe they just make some that suck.. Not Chill Gorilla, theirs rocks and is fully 100% waterproof!
2.) Curved Edges – During my test I did find that the curved edges helped keep me cool! Although, it has been cold around here, today we did have a 70 degree sunny day!! The curved edges allowed the breeze to blow keeping me cool while the sun was beating down on top!
3.) Reinforced Corners – These things blow away the competition!!! Very strong, no worries about them failing!! Can you believe I had a name brand tarp fail! Shame on you ENO (Eagles Nest Outfitters) your tarp cost over $100 and failed due to weak corners!!
4.) Plenty of tie down points!!
5.) Weighs under 1.5 pounds! Pretty good right? Great for backpacking!
6.) Packs small!! Smaller than my HydroFlask! (See photos below)
7.) Will work with ANY HAMMOCK. ENO, Grand Trunk, Yukon, Bear Butt, other brands? No worries! This will work with ANY HAMMOCK!!
Overall: Great tarp and like all Chill Gorilla Products, I highly recommend this!! I only recommend camping gear I use myself and this is that gear! You never want gear to fail on you while out and about.. I trust Chill Gorilla 100% of the time and know it wont leave me stranded!
Short Review (Summary): I recently came back from Florida and had a few more days off work so I took this out to around the Cade’s Cove area in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park! It was cold, not quite 30 but my thermometer read 32.. Weather said 36. Damp night so being down, I didn’t use it as a “Pod”. I used it as an underquilt while sleeping and just used it as a quilt while hanging and relaxing by the river… I stayed very warm using it as a blanket/quilt and when I used it at night as an underquilt it protected me from the wind blowing under the hammock! Even survived a black bear! Although it was just passing by my campsite and left me alone due to my food being in an RTIC cooler. (Black Bears usually leave you alone anyway. They aren’t angry bears like Grizzlies)
1.) Very versatile! I used this as a blanket, and overquilt and even underquilt! It can also zip up like an Ultralight sleeping bag (rectangular bag) plenty of uses
2.) 800 fill down is warm! And when you let it “fluff up” it’s very thick and fluffy!
3.) Holds true to temp ratings.. I was fine in this as a blanket! I didn’t use it as a blanket all night (down clumps together when it gets damp and being beside the river it got damp after midnight or so) but when my thermometer read 32 I was toasty in this. It also kept me warm from below when I used it as an underquilt while sleeping
4.) Great Quality – Quality seems just as good if not better than other expensive down sleeping bags.. no corners were cut here.. very well made bag, even has 800 fill down (a lot of companies will cut corners and put 400, 500 or sometimes even less quality down! 800 is great)
5.) Includes everything needed
6.) The material it’s made of makes it fairly windproof which is great for an underquilt
7.) I don’t own two of these but it looks like it is designed to be zipped together if I did making a great double bag (chill gorilla can correct me if I am wrong)
8.) No funky or strange smells
1.) Please research the type of bag you need before your trip.. I have synthetic, down, hybrids and other types! I find down to always be warmer but here in the mountains of east Tennessee, on damp nights I find the down clumping together and me getting cold.. this is a known downside for down but is also why I have all types of bags! Out west, and even camping in East Tennessee (just not the Mountains) down is my go-to when it’s cold!
2.) Using as a pod can be tricky if in the dark so practice before you go! This is a good tip for all gear
3.) Remember, a sleeping bag is an insulator! It doesn’t warm you itself normally.. it traps in body heat! So on a cold night (like my trip was) you will probably want this as an underquilt and probably a good mummy bag on top! Works very well
4.) You can wash this in products that will help it work better in damp air.. I have a lot of friends who do this.. I personally just use my synthetic bags when it’s damp but the wash in Products work great as well! I just try to avoid washing my down bags whenever possible
5.) Store in a pillow case so the down can breath! Or hang it to store.. don’t store it compressed.. that’s not good for down
6.) Down fluffs up after setting.. when you take it out it will be flat.. it will fluff up I promise
Overall: I had a good night in this bag! It worked very well! It was a beautiful clear night so no tarp was needed over my hammock.. just the stars, the river beside me and the black bear that visited me while I was sleeping!
Short Review (Summary): I was fortunate enough to get in on and be able to purchase during the first batch of these and must say it is awesome! When these are back in stock, I recommend everyone picking one up!! Quality is outstanding!! It feels very good during fall camping!! Yes, temp here is starting to drop so its nice to have this extra layer of warmth under my hammock! Doing a lot of hammock camping, an underquilt is a MUST
1.) THIS DOESN’T replace your sleeping bag (or I should say, topside blanket). I know several companies are coming out with “Pod” systems for hammocks that can replace your sleeping bag but underquilts don’t really do that.. Underquilts help protect you from the open air below your hammock.. They work WONDERFULLY well doing this but most folks will still need a sleeping bag, blanket, or quilt (Overquilt if you buy from ENO) on their topside! Especially if its cold outside
2.) Someone once asked me, “I have a sleeping bag that’s wrapped around me, why would I need this” and I responded saying that your sleeping bag is squashed between your body and hammock.. Meaning its not insulating you very well!! This underquilt adds a layer that isn’t “Squashed” between you!!. A good sleeping pad can do the same thing but really, a sleeping pad in a hammock? Come on!
1.) Unique Design – Underquilts aren’t really new but there aren’t many major companies out there making them.. You have ENO as the “Big Boy” making them and then several “Cottage” brands such as Chill Gorilla and others.. All brands are giving their underquilts a unique twist and I own some from several brands!!
One of the unique and new design choices I have seen with this underquilt is the bungy cord system. It has two sets of cords, one at the top and bottom center of the quilt that is designed to attach to your carabiners and the other set of cords is on the sides used to attach to your “Anchor” system (Tree, Hammock Stand, Etc.). Attaching at both places works SO MUCH BETTER!!
Another Unique design is the feet area of this underquilt is smaller than the head area.. This really does help the fit and makes this fit much better!! Also notice the sides are curved and not straight.. I own several brands with straight sides and it causes the underquilt to sag. The curved sides of this underquilt has seemed to correct that issue!!
2.) Price – Chill Gorilla always prices their stuff at a GREAT VALUE!! Price changes but if you shop around you will notice they are priced as a great value, especially for the product quality!!
3.) Includes EVERYTHING YOU NEED!! One underquilt I purchased from another brand made me buy bungie cords.. Not a huge issue but after I spend a good chunk of change on gear I hate having to buy “Extras” just to use it!!
4.) 40 Degree – This is actually perfect.. Especially for me!! I use underquilts as an extra layer of warmth on the bottom.. When you hammock camp, the open air under your hammock can get cold!! I still have my toasty 0 degree bag on top so this 40 degree extra layer on the bottom is plenty! At least in my area
5.) Semi Lightweight – This is a synthetic bag so it is heavier than my down bags but still light enough to hike and backpack with
6.) Synthetic – Am I a DOWN or Synthetic person? Well being from East Tennessee I am both! Down doesn’t work well when the air is damp (It clumps together and flattens).. The Smokies has DAMP AIR almost 90% of the time! When I hammock camp I am exposed to that damp air so I love synthetic HOWEVER I feel much warmer in my DOWN bags!! SOO basically when I hammock camp I use synthetic.. When I tent camp I use down that I have treated that helps it with the damp air. Being in a tent though, the damp air isn’t as hard on the down.. So yeah, I am one of those “Both” guys!! I do have a down underquilt and use it when I am not camping in the Smokies
7.) Supporting a green company! If you purchased one of the first few batches of these the logo is upside down.. The company says this in the description.. A lot of companies would of tossed these or sold them at an outlet.. Nothing wrong with selling them at an outlet but I see a lot wrong with tossing these! So I am very glad to support a company that is just honest about the mistake and doesn’t waste product
8.) Plenty Long Enough – No issues with length.. I am 6FT tall and my body never hung out of this
9.) Works with ALL hammocks and brands
Overall: Yeah! When these are back in stock GRAB ONE!! The first batch went quickly!!! I am sure the new batches will as well
1.) Photos will come soon (If I don’t forget!)
Short Review (Summary): This is the best Ultralight Fly for hammocks on the market!! Can even be used for survival and without hammocks!! Quality seems better than my Warbonnet Fly and the Chill Gorilla comes in much lighter!
Test: I used this weekend in the great Smokies! Beautiful weekend BUT it did rain Saturday night! Did I get wet nope! Not even a drop!
Pics Coming soon (Hopefully) – I am traveling for work and can’t upload them at the moment.
1.) Has doors on both sides
2.) Bigger than Warbonnet and other brands that have similar flies
1.) Doors – I remember a campout about 9 years ago where it rained cats and dogs! I was in my ENO Hammock and was using a Hennessy Rain Fly with it.. The rainfly was large but by the end of the night I was wet.. I had the fly stretched down to the ground on the sides but the wind still managed to blow rain in on the ends… After that I knew I needed a fly with doors! I tried several brands and while most actually performed well, most were heavy and expensive! I knew one thing though, I needed doors!
2.) Price – A hundred bucks sounds like a lot but for the quality, the size, and the support Chill Gorilla gives, $100 is an excellent deal!! My other flies, such as Warbonnet, cost me a lot more and really, they aren’t any better.
3.) Size – This thing is huge! Much longer than any others I own, which is the main reason I purchased.. as I said in my story above, I hate rain coming in on the ends and that doesn’t happen with this
4.) Backpacking Friendly – Lightest full fly with doors I have ever owned! It weighs less than most of my flies without doors!
5.) Easy Setup
6.) Like all chill gorilla products, I’m sure they want you to use this with their hammock BUT it is designed to be large enough to work with any hammock on the market.. Have a Bear Butt? And ENO? How about Grand Trunk? How about Kammock? I have them all and this works with them all! Even my long hammocks! (Although most of my long hammocks are made by chill gorilla! They have a thing with size and that’s a good thing! )
7.) Top Not Quality
8.) Excellent Support – I have never had a quality issue with a Chill Gorilla product but they have always been there to answer and and all questions I have! They will also listen to you if you have suggestions and ideas for their products!
9.) No issues with it leaking! I had rain when I used it this weekend and was very dry
Overall: I am very impressed with this fly and this will be my main fly this fall! I already have 3 or 4 trips over the next month or so planned for it.. I will be sure to update with photos and how it’s performing over the next few weeks! One trip in and I’m sold and impressed! My Warbonnet will probably end up for sale this week because I have no need for it anymore
Tips: Chill Gorilla stuff goes out of stock a lot so grab it when you see it! You will be happy! I have missed stuff from them I wanted so I the to buy right when it’s listed!
