HOKENA LED Road Flares Car Emergency Kit – Roadside Safety Beacon Warning Disc Lights for Vehicles Truck Boat – 3 Pack with Seatbelt Cutter

Short Review: I have never been a fan of regular flares.. they are messy (leave black marks), they can be dangerous, and they aren’t reusable! I saw these and had to give them a try! Yes, some improvements can be made (I’ll mention those below) but overall they are a solid design and a design that has multiple uses! Not just as a flare!

My planned uses include emergency kit in the car BUT I also plan to carry one while hiking, take them camping, and so on! These things are great and will be great for all activities!!

Pros
1.) Battery Powered – They operate on regular batteries so they are easy to change (includes the took to change) but this is also one of the improvements I can suggest.. Ever seen what happens to those batteries in emergency kits that are never used? They corrode! I would suggest maybe future versions use some sort of Lithium Battery that has a longer shelf life and less chance to corrode. But other than that, battery life rocks and this does include the battery! I would just suggest checking them from time to time and maybe running the flare for five or 10 mins to prevent the batteries from potential corrosion.

2.) Wonderful Quality

3.) Not heavy at all, they actually weigh less than real flares.. it’s going to make these great for camping! Or Hiking

4.) Get lost in the Smokies? Well hopefully not but if I do I will have one of these in my pack and one in each pack of folks with me!

5.) Carry case is very nice and will provide great protection in my vehicle

6.) Emergency hammer is a nice plus, howerver, mine didn’t come with any mounting hardware other than a mount.. this is one of my other suggestions for this product.. toss in a few screws to help mount the hammer..

7.) Value – I don’t know what I was expecting for the price, but not anything of this quality! I can actually see the seller getting more for this product.. these are nice

8.) Very bright! LEDs

9.) Each flare includes a hook and magnet so you can hang

10.) Mode includes a memory.. they will power on in the last mode you used. Great when using this as a tent light or something

11.) Includes flashlight mode so you can toss that crappy flashlight in your trunk

12.) Reusable and Environmentally friendly

13.) Rubber outter protection which is needed for any emergency or outdoor use

Feedback (Improvements):

1.) Battery – I suggest maybe using some sort of Lithium battery in future models.. not button cell but like a small CR123 battery or something

2.) Mounting hardware for the hammer

Asside from that, these seem perfect so far! A great idea very well done

CHILL GORILLA HAMMOCK UNDERQUILT BLANKET. Lightweight Fits All Camping Hammocks. Under Quilt Keeps You Warmer, Saves Space & Versatile. Camping Backpacking and Survival Gear. Eno Accessory BLUE

Short Review (Summary): I was fortunate enough to get in on and be able to purchase during the first batch of these and must say it is awesome! When these are back in stock, I recommend everyone picking one up!! Quality is outstanding!! It feels very good during fall camping!! Yes, temp here is starting to drop so its nice to have this extra layer of warmth under my hammock! Doing a lot of hammock camping, an underquilt is a MUST

Tips
1.) THIS DOESN’T replace your sleeping bag (or I should say, topside blanket). I know several companies are coming out with “Pod” systems for hammocks that can replace your sleeping bag but underquilts don’t really do that.. Underquilts help protect you from the open air below your hammock.. They work WONDERFULLY well doing this but most folks will still need a sleeping bag, blanket, or quilt (Overquilt if you buy from ENO) on their topside! Especially if its cold outside

2.) Someone once asked me, “I have a sleeping bag that’s wrapped around me, why would I need this” and I responded saying that your sleeping bag is squashed between your body and hammock.. Meaning its not insulating you very well!! This underquilt adds a layer that isn’t “Squashed” between you!!. A good sleeping pad can do the same thing but really, a sleeping pad in a hammock? Come on!

Pros
1.) Unique Design – Underquilts aren’t really new but there aren’t many major companies out there making them.. You have ENO as the “Big Boy” making them and then several “Cottage” brands such as Chill Gorilla and others.. All brands are giving their underquilts a unique twist and I own some from several brands!!

One of the unique and new design choices I have seen with this underquilt is the bungy cord system. It has two sets of cords, one at the top and bottom center of the quilt that is designed to attach to your carabiners and the other set of cords is on the sides used to attach to your “Anchor” system (Tree, Hammock Stand, Etc.). Attaching at both places works SO MUCH BETTER!!

Another Unique design is the feet area of this underquilt is smaller than the head area.. This really does help the fit and makes this fit much better!! Also notice the sides are curved and not straight.. I own several brands with straight sides and it causes the underquilt to sag. The curved sides of this underquilt has seemed to correct that issue!!

2.) Price – Chill Gorilla always prices their stuff at a GREAT VALUE!! Price changes but if you shop around you will notice they are priced as a great value, especially for the product quality!!

3.) Includes EVERYTHING YOU NEED!! One underquilt I purchased from another brand made me buy bungie cords.. Not a huge issue but after I spend a good chunk of change on gear I hate having to buy “Extras” just to use it!!

4.) 40 Degree – This is actually perfect.. Especially for me!! I use underquilts as an extra layer of warmth on the bottom.. When you hammock camp, the open air under your hammock can get cold!! I still have my toasty 0 degree bag on top so this 40 degree extra layer on the bottom is plenty! At least in my area

5.) Semi Lightweight – This is a synthetic bag so it is heavier than my down bags but still light enough to hike and backpack with

6.) Synthetic – Am I a DOWN or Synthetic person? Well being from East Tennessee I am both! Down doesn’t work well when the air is damp (It clumps together and flattens).. The Smokies has DAMP AIR almost 90% of the time! When I hammock camp I am exposed to that damp air so I love synthetic HOWEVER I feel much warmer in my DOWN bags!! SOO basically when I hammock camp I use synthetic.. When I tent camp I use down that I have treated that helps it with the damp air. Being in a tent though, the damp air isn’t as hard on the down.. So yeah, I am one of those “Both” guys!! I do have a down underquilt and use it when I am not camping in the Smokies

7.) Supporting a green company! If you purchased one of the first few batches of these the logo is upside down.. The company says this in the description.. A lot of companies would of tossed these or sold them at an outlet.. Nothing wrong with selling them at an outlet but I see a lot wrong with tossing these! So I am very glad to support a company that is just honest about the mistake and doesn’t waste product

8.) Plenty Long Enough – No issues with length.. I am 6FT tall and my body never hung out of this

9.) Works with ALL hammocks and brands

Overall: Yeah! When these are back in stock GRAB ONE!! The first batch went quickly!!! I am sure the new batches will as well

Notes
1.) Photos will come soon (If I don’t forget!)

Chill Gorilla Defender 11′ Bug Net. Compact, Lightweight. Fits ALL Camping Hammocks. [Essential Camping and Survival Gear]

Short Review:  Those that follow my reviews, or those that are shopping for hammocks and hammock gear may have seen my reviews.. I have 5 brands I REALLY LOVE!! Chill Gorilla, Bear Butt, ENO, Kammok, and Grand Trunk (Although I am not really into Grand Trunk as much as I used to be).  Anyways, with that being said they are all GREAT BRANDS but all have something that stand them apart.. Chill Gorillas difference is their size!!  This big net is not only LONGER than ENO and Bear Butt, but it is also much roomier giving you plenty of space inside the net..  The vertical zipper is actually MUCH easier to use, and the materials of the Chill Gorilla seem to be just as good, if not better than ENO!!

Pros
1.) LONG –  I have longer hammocks that don’t fit as well in ENO and Bear Butt bug nets due to their length.. This net is at least a foot longer than most making it fit better around long hammocks..  Please note, it fits just as well around the shorter hammocks such as ENO as it does long!

2.) Vertical Zipper – The Vertical zipper is actually very nice.. I took my hammock out this weekend to and tried out the bug net and found it much easier to get into the hammock with the vertical zipper.. BUT THE BEST PART, its much easier to ZIP and CLOSE the bug net..  Those that hammock camp know it takes a few minutes to get situated in your hammock..  It then sucks when you realize you have to uncover and reach to the FOOT of the hammock to grab the zipper of the bug net and close it.. Not with the vertical zipper!!  It’s actually very genius!

3.) Great Quality – Built just as good, if not better than ENO.. Quality is GREAT

4.) Easy to Pack

5.) Fits MOST hammocks – Should fit short hammocks just fine.. I checked it with Bear Butt, ENO, and Kammok and had no issues with fit.. It fits and worked wonderfully well.. Being longer, it also fits longer hammocks GREAT such as the longer Chill Gorilla Hammocks!!  I am sure Chill Gorilla would rather you use this with their branded hammocks but just know, it will work fine with ENO and other brands!! (WINK WINK, I do recommend Chill Gorilla Hammocks a lot though, especially if you need a budget hammock that is GREAT quality)

6.) Net closes NICE and tightly around your straps keeping bugs out!

7.) Backpacker Friendly – Even though the net is a little larger than most, it weighs nearly the same as other brands if not lighter!!  Very friendly for backpacking

8.) Includes Paracord for setup! YES PARACORD!! not that cheap NYLON junk other brands include

Overall: Excellent bug net!! I recommend this to ANYONE

ACRATO Sleeping Pad TPU Thick Lightweight Air Inflating Camping Mattress Camp Pad attached Pillow For Outdoor Camping Hiking Backpacking Tents

Short Review: Saw these pads (They are actually a Nature Hike pad) and having good success with Nature Hike before, I figured I would give them a try.. I go camping about 3 times a month and backpacking for most of those trips.. I have VERY HIGH END pads but I always have friends who don’t have a sleeping pad. This will make a GREAT pad for them when we go hiking!

Why do you need a sleeping pad?
1.) Comfort – But this isn’t the only reason
2.) Warmth – Did you know that when you sleep on cold camping trips, you lose most of your warmth to the ground? Your sleeping bag flattens and the ground sucks the heat out of you!! The main purpose of a sleeping pad is to insulate you from the ground!! Now this pad doesn’t have an advertised “R-Value” (Which is how real camping gear companies measure warmth).. This will keep you warm BUT I would caution using it in the “teens” unless you have tested it beforehand.. I will say, it is fine in the 30’s (The temp it is around here currently)
3.) I promise you, after hiking 10 miles a sleeping pad is a luxury you don’t want to be without!

Pros
1.) VERY Compact! – Not bulky at all! This is smaller than MOST water bottles meaning it wont take up much room in your pack

2.) Lightweight – Every OUNCE counts!! This doesn’t weigh much so no worries there

3.) THICK

4.) Includes Blow Up Bag (Think Pump) – YEAH you can probably blow it up quicker by mouth BUT the moisture from your lungs is VERY VERY bad on sleeping pads.. The pump bag will prolong the life of your pad

5.) Same materials as my REI and other name brand pads! This should last!!

6.) Durable – I took this out this weekend and had no issues.. It stayed aired up.. It seems to be well made.. And quality is great.. I wouldn’t worry about the durability of this pad (If it ends up failing, I will update my review)

7.) Quite Pad – Ever had a noisy pad that wakes up the entire campsite? DON’T BE THAT GUY!!! This pad is quite

8.) Includes Pillow

9.) Easy to inflate by mouth or pump bag (Again I Recommend using pump bag

10.) Pump bag works on my thermarest pads!!

11.) Includes one way valve for inflating PLUS a quick deflate by opening the valve the rest of the way up!

12.) Wonderful VALUE – My REI pad is over $100! Most of my other pads are to.. This pad is a GREAT VALUE

Cons

1.) No advertised R-Value – Meaning I really don’t know how warm it will be.. Again, it was fine in the 30’s.. I have reached out to Acrato to see if there is an R-Value for this pad

Overall – Simply amazing for the price!! I highly recommend it

Outdoor Vitals Aerie 30°F Down Underquilt

>

Short Review: Very packable (About the size of a small football packed) down feather underquilt at an awesome price!! I would compare this to the ENO Vulcan (ENOs high end underquilt that cost around $200) but it is only HALF the price of the Vulcan (I do own a Vulcan as well from ENO).. I am glad to see companies such as Outdoor Vitals making underquilts! Really, until now they where only made by the large hammock companies.. The quality of this underquilt is OUTSTANDING and this is a double duty item!! It would also make a GREAT fall/spring ultralight sleeping bag for backpacking because it is FULLY zippable into a full rectangular sleeping bag! From the fill power, the fluff, and the design of this bag, I do feel safe saying it is a 30 degree bag!! It does have a sewn through design and if it was a baffled design I bet this would be a 20 degree bag.. I have no issues with the sewn through design because this will be mostly used UNDER my hammock while I am using my Outdoor Vitals 0 degree bag (Paid full price for it) inside my hammock during cold nights! I will also be using this as my Spring/Fall backpacking bag! It’s TINY packed!

Note & Tip: The head and feet of this bag do CINCH together around your hammock without anything extra BUT you must provide your on bungee cord or para cord to create your ridge line. One should always examine your gear BEFORE you take it camping but just in case you don’t, please make sure you take cord with you. You will need it to make this work as an underquilt

Pros
1.) Soft & Strong Materials – The 20D ripstop materials (Even though it looks thin) is VERY SOFT and VERY Strong! The 380T inner feels AWESOME on your skin if used as a regular sleeping bag! This is a durable bag and I wouldn’t worry about any rips! 20D ripstop is a GREAT material!

2.) Double Duty – The ENO underquilts plus other underquilts I have owned are ONLY underquilts.. This quilt can double as a rectangular bag! I love how this is a jack of all trades.

3.) Double Bag – Buy two and they are designed to be zipped together as a double bag!

4.) Great Size – I am 6FT 190 pounds and I have plenty of room using this as a sleeping bag.. Also, using it in my hammock my feet DO NOT hang out! Great Size

5.) SMALL Packed Down – About the size of a SMALL (Not NFL sized) football packed

6.) Takes up NO ROOM in your pack!! Would also make a GREAT Spring/Fall ult alight sleeping bag!!!

7.) 800 Fill Power – The ENO Vulcan is only 700 or 750 (I can’t remember off the top of my head but I know its only in the 700 range)

8.) Each grid (At least on mine) seem to be filled equally with down

9.) No funky smells out of the bag!

Compared to ENO Vulcan
1.) Packs MUCH Smaller
2.) Less Expensive
3.) Can be used as a sleeping bag and underquilt
4.) 30 Degrees (The Vulcan is rated at 35 – 40 degrees)
5.) DOES NOT include bungee cords like the Vulcan (But remember the Vulcan doesn’t include zippers like this)
6.) Does NOT include a long term storage bag like the Vulcan does.. It DOES include a stuff sack but long term storage bags are much larger (See my tips for solutions to this issue)

Tips
1.) Always remember to hang your bag when in storage or store it in a pillowcase, large laundry bag, OR special sleeping bag storage bags such as the large cotton bags you can buy from REI.. This helps increase the life of the bags filling! Basically you DO NOT want to store your bag compressed.. It needs to breathe and be stored fluffed.

2.) Use a sleeping bag sheet inside your bags! This keeps you from having to wash your sleeping bag. You can find sleeping bag sheets for about $10 here on Amazon.. They are WELL worth it.. Comfortable, Soft, and it always smells and feels like you are climbing into a nice clean bed!

3.) If you plan to use this in very wet conditions you can always treat it with nikwax down wash to help waterproof it! You can buy nikwax here at Amazon or at outdoor stores such as REI. Works well, I treat most of my bags with it.. Tennessee is very wet during the Spring/Fall when I do most of my camping and it has always worked well

*I did receive this in exchange of honest review but the owner also wants my feedback on this item. He found me because I have purchased over $300 worth of bags from him at FULL PRICE before I started reviewing some of his products.. The owner loves the outdoors just as much as you and I, that are shopping for GREAT quality outdoor bags such as this*

Luxe Tempo 2 Person 4 Season Tents for Camping & Backpacking

Short Review:  Excellent TENT!!  I just got back from a weekend camping trip (Very cold camping trip due to the burn ban in east Tennessee) and I must say, this tent performed wonderfully well and the quality it outstanding!! This tent is built just as well as my $250 tent from REI and has the features to match!  Super easy to setup and packs back down in a jiffy!

Pros
1.) Easy to Assemble – Instructions are sewn into the bag so you can’t lose them, but the tent is a simple two pole design!  I had it up in about 5 minutes
2.) High Quality Materials – Aluminum Poles, fully taped ripstop fabric, AMAZING Zippers, and overall just a very well made tent
3.) Waterproof – Fully taped seams and a full sized rainfly help keep you dry! It did come a very short shower while I was out and nothing got into the tent.. We are in a drought (At the time of this review) so we haven’t had significant rain in a while but I have no doubt that this tent wouldn’t keep me dry!
4.) Footprint is available for this tent and it has the places to attach the footprint!  This adds warmth and protection to the bottom of the tent

5.) Aluminum Poles – I never buy tents that have fiberglass poles anymore.. Aluminum all the way
6.) Easy to repack
7.) Perfect Size – Plenty of room for 2 (Store gear in the vestibule) or TONS of room for 1 with gear stored inside.  For solo backpacking I ALWAYS use a two person tent when I am not backpacking with my hammock.. I love the extra space
8.) Weighs under 5 pounds if you leave the bag and extras at home!  Packed weight is only 5.5 pounds so not bad their either
9.) Excellent Value –  This tent is made just as well as my $250 REI tent..  The value of this tent is great! Its hard to find an aluminum pole, taped seams, high quality tent like this for under $200 anywhere!  This tent is an AWESOME Value
10.) Vestibule Area for storing gear
11.) TWO DOORS – this is a must when you have two people!! No climbing over your tent partner when nature calls!  This tent offers two doors!
12.) Bright Color is easy to see in your campsite after dark
13.) Great Ventilation – This is important when it comes to tents..  If not, condensation KILLS!! Especially on cold nights.. This tent offers wonderful ventilation!

Cons
1.) Footprint must be purchased separately but this is common for most tents

Overall:  I am very impressed with this tent and own SEVERAL name brand tents.. This one is made just as well as all of them!! Will it hold up as well?  I have no idea, only time will tell BUT from the looks of the tent, the build quality is outstanding and this tent will last for a very long time!!  I highly recommend this tent to ANYONE!!
